How to turn Windows Server 2008 R2 into Windows 7

Windows Server 2008 R2 is the server version of Windows 7. It is built on the same Windows NT version (6.1) as Windows 7 is. Even though it is designed to be as secure as doable and focus on background processes, it can be configured to function like a desktop operating system.
The first thing you’d probably want to do is enable wireless LAN:
Open Server Manager
Select Features from the tree-view on the left
Click Add Features
Check Wireless LAN
At this stage you can also install the Desktop Experience feature but make sure you have downloaded and installed the your graphics card driver beforehand.
Check Desktop Experience (along with .NET Framework 3.5.1)
Click Next
Wait for features to be installed and configured and personal to restart
Now that you have your video card driver and desktop experience installed, you can enable the aero theme by doing the followning:
Open Services
Click on Themes and the service
Set it to Automatic and click Apply.
Right-click on the desktop and choose Personalize
Choose the Windows 7 theme
You can also download more Windows 7 themes and backgrounds from here and use one of them if you desire. Now, you might be wondering why you can’t hear any sounds. To fix this:
Open Services
Click on Windows Audio and begin the service
Set it to Automatic and click Apply.
Click on Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and begin the service
Set it to Automatic and click Apply.
Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize
Click on Sounds (along the bottom)
Change Sound Scheme to Windows Default
By default, a Windows Server operating system tells the processor to give priority to the background services since 90% of the time there is no individual using the organisation to open any applications. But to ensure your applications get all the processor power they need, follow these steps:
Open Advanced System Settings (in personal properties)
Go to the Advanced tab
Click Settings in the Performance group-box
Go to the Advanced tab
Select Programs under Processor Scheduling
Click Apply
You might have noticed that World wide web Explorer blocks many websites, this is because Internet Explorer Enchanced Security (IE ESC) is enabled. To disable it:
Open Server Manager
Go to the root of the tree-view
Scroll down to Securtiy Infomation
Click Configure IE ESC
Select Off for your desired individual group(s)
Click Apply
Server operating systems rely very much on logs so that the server administrator knows what problems have occurred and possibly why. This is why it asks you for a reason that the server’s being shutdown. If you’d rather not have this then:
Open Run (from the Start menu)
Type gpedit.msc and click OK
Expand Administrative Templates (under Computer Configuration)
Select the System folder below
In the right pane, locate then open Display Shutdown Event Tracker
Choose Disable
Click Apply
If you are fussed about having to press CTRL+ALT+DEL before you enter your password for login then do this:
Open Local Security Policy (under Administrative Tools)
Expand Local Policies
Select Security Options
In the right pane, locate Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL
Open it and choose Enabled
Click Apply
That concludes this article, I hope this has been of great help to you. If you have any problems or queries then please comment.
Until next time,
Kind Regards,
Rob Nox

Bradley Brown, Chief Technology Officer, Tusc Will Discuss Service Oriented Architecture at the 2008 Financial Services Technology Forum

August 27, 2008 – Toronto, Canada – Bradley Brown, Chief Technology Officer at TUSC will present the implementation and benefits of the lightweight Service Oriented Architecture at the 2008 Financial Services Technology Forum.
Internal and External Application Integration - Oracle Fusion Web Services
Having ventured down the path of a full bore implementation of internal and external application integration in what he perceived as the most efficient and cost effective manner; attendees will get the benefit of his hindsight introspection today. Specifically, he will explain the implementation and benefits of the lightweight Service Oriented Architecture (i. e. Web Services) wherever it makes sense. This presentation will discuss the good, bad and unsightly about this approach that was taken.
While Brad is easily recognized as an accomplished Oracle author and world-renowned speaker, it is his technological expertise that clearly is his identity. While he has enjoyed a countless number of major implementation successes over the years, one milestone that clearly stands out centers around the development of “Periscope” which he released through TUSC in 2002. Periscope is breakthrough software that makes data from other data sources (i. e. , Microsoft Access, Sybase, SQL Server, DB2, Web Services, file systems, APIs, etc. ) appear as if it’s in one huge Oracle Database. The data also can be inserted, updated and deleted from many source databases. The groundbreaking tool works with more than 100 databases.
Brad’s vast experience and expertise have attained him roles as chief technology officer of a number of companies including IntelliReal, Open Access Broadband Networks and EventConnex. Brad has also been an active board member for a number of companies and organizations including Geekcruises, Lantech Inc. , Colorado Uplift and Cactus Strategies. Brad was actively involved in Young Presidents Organization from 1997, having served as the Colorado chapter’s chapter chair, breakfast of champions chair, on-boarding chair, education chairperson, inventory of skills chairperson, technology officer, assistant education chairperson and membership chairperson. Brad currently instructs “New Venture Creation” in the graduate department of the University of Denver.

Amazing Technological Advancements Of 2008

You might remember the things that seemed impossible when you were a child: speaking to somebody on the other side of the world, for free and anytime you like was probably one of them, along with a cure for AIDS, and being invisible. All of these boundaries have been broken, absolutely or at least in effect. Surely we will be flying, teleporting and living to our two-hundredth birthdays, within the next century! However, sometimes the simplest advances are the most amazing, not least because they are actually here, now. In this article we look at some astonishing advancements in technology from 2008, specifically with regard to personal hardware, software, network performance management and information technology infrastructure.
Do you remember the science fiction movies where messages are projected onto walls, or even into the middles of rooms like in Star Wars? Well, the first steps to that technology have been unveiled by Microsoft at the CEO Summit in Washington recently. Microsoft has developed laser technology that can turn any surface into a touchscreen, and grant you to interact with a central computer, even on the internet. This information technology infrastructure means you could be having chat conversations on the kitchen bench while cooking, or reading emails in the shower, before long. We aim higher than even Bill Gates comment that we should “Think about the whiteboard in your office becoming intelligent”.
Not likely to be hailed as a genius breakthrough by consumers, but perhaps the savior of the music industry, is a new digital fingerprinting technology being developed primarily by LTU technologies. Long has law enforcement and information technology consultants thrown their hands up in helplessness at the problems of piracy of music and video content, saying there is juts no way to control it. However, digital fingerprinting could save the music and video industries millions of dollars each year. Key identifiers in a file are pattern matched against a central database – if a pattern is copyrighted, it can’t be uploaded. This information technology infrastructure also has the potential to do wonders for network performance management, as traffic levels drop.
Sometimes the most astonishing advancements are also the ones that you didn’t realize weren’t yet possible. Ordinary people have heard of wireless technology, and immediately assumed they could be surfing the world wide web from their laptop while skydiving, travelling the countryside, or out in deep dark forests.
The reality is a lot more sober – however, there has recently been an astonishing new development in wireless information technology infrastructure that grants delivery of audio and video content to passengers on the Singapore Flyer, the world’s tallest attending deck. It was previously impossible to get data reliably through such a tall, massive and dense structure, which was also continuously moving. However, an IT consulting firm has developed solutions which grant just that. Laptops while skydiving are one step closer, at least!
New wireless sensor technology might also help track both computational loads on massive mainframes, and the heat distribution of your house. Microsoft has developed very cheap wireless sensors that can be used to collect and transmit data, as well as controlling environments. For about $3 a sensor, in the future you could have an automatically, perfectly climate controlled home. No more chilly hallways and wet corners!
While we aren’t teleporting or outliving turtles yet, it seems that it certainly won’t be long.
The 10 Most Memorable Gadgets in Asia in 2008

2008 has nearly drawn to a close and its time for the world as a collective whole to draw breath gather its thoughts and throw out those lists of changes in the year that prefabricated people sit up and take notice.
While the first half of the year could have been called a Mac(intosh) attack (first there was the Macbook Air, then the 3G iPhone) and the second half of the year was the approaching ecopocalypse there was still other news and gadgets out there that caught people’s attention.
Here’s what we thought were the memorable gadgets to come out of Asia for 2008. . .
Asus Eee Netbooks
It could be their size, their price or the fact that, for a while, the makers of Eee laptop line place the Linux operating system on their laptops above windows and OSX but you didn’t have far to come accross a release about this Taiwanese company this year.
The latest entry onto the market were two models which prefabricated everything thinner and added a 3G modem in the November release of the Eee computer S101, Eee computer 1002H captured nearly as much attention as the begin of the year.
HTC G1
Much of the buzz around the HTC G1 surrounded the Google Android operating software (which was actually being worked on by a US company called Android before Google purchased the company in 2005 and worked them into the team) announced in November 2007.
However, Taiwanese company HTC, (better known beforehand for touch phones like the HTC touch and personal like the HTC Shift) was the first off the line when it came to making the hardware to go along with the software.
Many of the reviews of the HTC G1 have been blended so far but signs are improving.
Chinavasion Projector Phone
2008 was very much the year for phones and the Chinavasion projector phone was another that grabbed the attention from a lot of people. This could have come from two places. . .
Pico projectors were just as much hot property as cell phones with companies vying to be the first to release a commercial pico projector and gadget blogs trying to guess when that would happen.
3M looked like it was going to be first in line to get the mass produced projector onto the market when Chinavasion did more than beat them to the post. It did a tiny web 2. 0 mash up to create a cell phone/projector.
Mind you, given the current Chinavasion track record, perhaps it is not such a surprise.
Softbank 823SH Tiffany
Japan, famous for their love of cell phones, gadgets and anything strange.
So it should come as no surprise when a Asian phone provider, Softbank Mobile went “ecopocalypse what ecopocalypse?” and place out a smart phone with a case prefabricated absolutely of silver and diamonds from New York jewelers ‘Tiffanies”
The Softbank 823SH Tiffany has 537 diamonds, weighing 18. 34 carats, encrusted in the case and cost around the 13 million yen mark (that’s 130,265 dollars to US dwellers). If you want one superior get your skates on because according tothe company only 10 will be prefabricated initially.
Pyocotan’s Noriko San Goggles
While we’re on the topic of ‘aint Nihon strange’ this piece of technology hit the interwebs around October. The length of time people spend commuting in Nihon isn’t exactly anything new, neither is the fact that people go to sleep on commutes and miss their stop.
Japanese hacker, Pyocotan, came up with a new spin on the old-fashioned sign around the neck and the smell of cheap booze, Noriko-san googles which showed off the destination you were heading to. . . would people wake you up though?
Cassette MP3 Player
While launched by the company Chinavasion in late 2007 the Cassette MP3 player didn’t really capture the blogger’s attention until the begin of the next year. Once people grabbed the intent they held onto it and for at least 12 months it was on somebody’s lips somewhere.
Perhaps the success of this MP3 player was that it was cheap, adorable and let people use equipment that might have been destined to be sold out of the boots of automobiles at flea markets and underneath motorway overamps.
Styson i Knock
Another cheap and cheerful gadget from the greater China area (OK Taiwan) is the i-Knock. This gadget would be handy for the ’social networking set’ hooked to their Facebook pages and instant messaging services it knocks itself out (and plays a tune if you program it nicely) each time you get an instant message. The perfect place for any unused pictures of the ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend
Hopefully the end of 2008 will herald the end of the i- movement. This vowel movement makes me want to punch babies.
Samsung Touch Sight
While still in concept stage this would definitely have to be one of the coolest things to come out this year. The Touch Sight is a camera for the blind that takes a picture using braile and sound which owners can store and share with friends.
Chinavasion Super Cool Mobile Phone Wrist Watch
The cell phone watch intent has been for a long time, ever since a 1946 Dick Tracy strip at the very least, but it really didn’t hit the market until half-way through this year.
This cool cell phone watch was the begin of a torrent of wrist phones and the wonderful realisation of the childhood dreams of many middle-aged men.
Tokyo Flash Watch
There hasn’t been too many months go by that one of these watches didn’t turn up in the gadget blogs.
They require special knowledge to work out, they use digital time if they don’t and they’re silver. . . it’s a wonder they weren’t first thought up in the 80’s
See the blog in all its glory at http://gadgetfreaks. wordpress. com or see what wholesale electronic gadgets are acquirable online from China at companies like Chinavasion.
