Clean technology is any technology that uses raw materials like water, air and electricity more effectively and produces minimum toxic waste from it.

In simpler terms, it is technology that has a minimum impact on the environment and at the same time gives a much superior output in terms of profit. It is also known as ‘cleantech’ in short. The applications of cleantech are many. For example, energy, water filtration, electrical cars etc.

What makes it lucrative for investors?

The growth of ‘cleantech’ in the last few years has been significant. While cleantech companies only represented about one percent of all American investments about 5 years ago, it has risen to nearly 7 percent now. This number is set to further increase. Automation technologies that for energy management is set to rise to $5 billion in the next few years.

By the year 2012, the global wind energy market is estimated to touch $28 billion. The energy infrastructure in the US has been clearly underinvested and this has cost the US billions of dollars.

This is one of the sectors where cleantech has prefabricated big inroads in. Similarly, the water sector is another area that is undergoing considerable development.

The growing number of captivating deals

In the last three to four years, there have been nearly 500 investment transactions in Cleantech. The number of deals is set to rise even further. This is what makes it one of the ideal investment options ever.
