Advancements In Computer Technology

Technology

With technology progressing as fast as it is at the present, it is a wonder we do not have a new mass-marketed gadget appearing each few minutes. Personal computers, once predicted to be owned by a mere handful of individuals, are everywhere nowadays. If you are a student a individualized individualized is virtually a necessity. Accompanying the ever-increasing popularity of the individualized individualized is a plethora of gadgets and technological advancements. Though it might not be each few minutes, it seems as though each couple of months we hear about a individualized with more storage space or a new device that one can connect to their computer.

Some devices that appear on the market are either absolutely superfluous or not so accessible to the entirety of the population, whether it is because of their cost or their limited supply. The pricey devices are reserved to those who can afford them, until some new gadget replaces them and the price of these machines decreases, much like any new technology that appears on the market. Those gadgets, which are unnecessary, are not overly practical and the market for these creations is comprised mainly of those with an affinity for such devices. Inventions like webcams, while they are certainly fun to play with, are essentially unnecessary as they have no bearing on the actual operation of the individualized and are used largely for leisure individualized activities.

The more purposeful advancements in individualized technology revolve around those, which increase the individualized capability to manage certain tasks and those, which increase the storage space of the computer. Many individualized individualized owners find themselves craving more space to store songs or various other files and often wishing that their individualized were faster. Though many individualized produced this day have a excessive storage space, that is, it is almost impossible to fill a individualized individualized to capacity, these types of advancements permit a much speedier and more efficient functioning computer.

Know More About Adsl Modems

data synchronization

ADSL refers to asymmetric digital subscriber line and a kind of DSL broadband world wide web connection technology. One of its major benefits is excessive quantity of data which can be sent to already accessible copper telephone lines. They display an improved form of conventional modem lines. In order to meet the needs of high-speed world wide web communication devices, there have been numerous improvements in today’s environment. There is a specific attachment of a special filter connected to the user’s telephone line which enables both ADSL and genuine telephone services need to be run in synchronization. This filter is popularly known as micro filter.

The construction features of ADSL individualized modems call for the services of subscribers and ADSL modem which should be kept in close geological area to the world wide web service provider’s central office. it is imperative to get the ideal services that subscribers can attain from the demand of equilibrise of the digital subscriber line. The distance between the ISP office and subscriber should be in a length of maximum 2.5 miles. The upstream rate of ADSL is 16 to 640 Kbps and its downstream rate is 1.5 to 9 Mbps which makes it beneficial as compared to all other world wide web connections acquirable in the defined vicinity.

The latest ADSL technology is majorly represented by ADSL individualized modems. This modem provides a favourite and cost effective solution for end users. It enables the faster data transfer directly to the individualized personal of the user. The cost of this modem differs depending on the user’s demand for the speed variations in the server. There are numerous options with the variations of upstream and downstream frequencies according to the abilities and location of the users. The minimum acquirable configuration is 1.5 Mbps and maximum is 8 Mbps.

ADSL individualized modems are generally of three types including Ethernet, PCI and USB. The major advantage of ADSL modems is that it can create multiple channels for the transfer of data.

What is Next in E-Ink Technology

Technology

Not only is the technology of e-readers progressing rapidly, but e-Ink technology is improving alongside it.  There have been a number of new developments that we will be seeing later in the year, one of them being color e-Ink.  However, even though E Ink has plans to launch a form of color display later this year, it is not expected to be of high calibre just yet.

However, the new generation color E Ink products are certainly crisper and offer superior resolution and color reproduction that anything else seen to date, so what is the immediate future for e-Ink products and when can we anticipate to see electronic ink begin to compete with LCD displays?

Color E-Ink

According to T.H. Peng, the VP of Prime View International that owns E Ink,  it will be some time before e-Ink calibre can match that of LCD. However, he did indicate that some customers are preparing to launch colored e-paper by the begin of 2011 at latest. Even though the colored e-Ink is said to compare with color newsprint, it is certainly nothing like the calibre of color in glossy magazines and has a long way to go to attain it.

Not only is it often difficult to distinguish between the various colors, but the contrast and saturation are not up to standard, and the results are far from impressive. Though some examples shown the opposite. According to the article “E-paper 2.0 And Fujitsu Has It In Color”, researchers at Fujitsu have upped the ante in the very competitive E-reader market by releasing a group of color devices in their new FLEPia line. These E-readers incorporate Fujitsu’s ground breaking color e-paper and look to be the first in a new wave of color E-readers (Digital Book Readers).

It has been stressed that there is a number of doable ways of expressing color with e-Ink, and this demo was only one of them and not necessarily the end result.  It is doable that the ideal is being kept under wraps, even though it is difficult to believe that E Ink did not display its ideal at the Display Week conference in Seattle at the end of May.

Even though it might be reasonable to adopt that it will be a few years yet before high calibre color is acquirable using current e-Ink technology, the iPad launch has stimulated interest in e-readers as a means of reading glossy magazines.  Not surprisingly, this appears to have stimulated research into reproducing the color calibre of magazines on the iPad display as they think about a switch to digital publications rather than paper.

It is also clean to state that the e-ink displays are easier to read on platforms such as the iPad, even though as already stated, the colors acquirable are not as bright as LCD colors. Nevertheless, once a successful commercially viable option is available, power usage will be less due to the elimination of the need for a backlight and the relative assist of reading without a backlight will be superior on the eyes.  Such an energy efficient and healthier reading option will offer a significant commercial advantage to the company that first introduces it.

Flexible Plastic Displays

There are a number of different types of plastic display under investigation, even though the HP system is looking very promising.  HP is using three layers of electronic ink to produce bright colors, even though even these are not a vivid as LCD displays. Nevertheless, the benefits of their ‘roll-to roll’ plastic displays nearly render this irrelevant because it introduces the possibility of displays of nearly limitless dimensions, and also wrap-around displays for advertising and gaming purposes.

The HP labs are investigating 40-micron thick displays produced using the process of imprint lithography, where resistors are imprinted on thin plastic about half the thickness of normal book paper, weighing about 40 times less than the standard portable glass displays and hence significantly lighter. They are therefore less costly to manufacture and will offer more flexibility in pricing.

An HP Labs spin-off, Phicot, has already produced viable wrist displays that are powered by a solar cell and can offer instant information to soldiers in the field:  these should be acquirable in 2011 and will significantly improve communication during effort and under conditions of secrecy and security.

Development in e-Ink and associated technologies is proceeding at a rapid rate, and it would not be surprising if new products were commercially acquirable well within the above estimated timescales.  Both E Ink and HP are under increasing pressure from other businesses, some of which have been involved in the e-reader field for some time, and a few that are entering what appears now to be the reading platform of the future: e-readers and non-backlit e-Ink on flexible roll-up screens that can not only be extended as needed but also rolled into shapes for 360 degree display and to match specific contours.

If this sounds like some Sci-Fi for the future, it is not.  It is happening now, and keep your eyes peeled because if the amount of R&D being carried out is a guide, the first commercially viable products should be hitting the shelves much sooner than most experts have estimated.

Using Modern Communication Technology Effectively

Technology

People around the world has been using various ways of communicating with one another for many years. From the humble paper and pen to the iPhone, a lot of information has been exchanged crossways cultures and boundaries. There are so many different kinds of gadgets in the world that you might wonder which one which is the ideal for a giving situation. If this is so, let’s see which of the favourite communication tools we have this day is the most suitable for a giving situation.

Email

Email is ideal suited for communication that required a record of what being communicated and when attachments are required to be sent. You can attached photos, forms, videos, audios, and other types of electronic files to your emails.

Email is however, not suitable for messages that require instant reply. This is because some people do not check their emails regular making it no difference between snail mails which are letters brought to you by the mailman and emails. Email is also not suitable for two-way communication as we might hear in a regular conversation.  Here’s is an example:

Hi Mary,

How are you?

It has been in  a long time I have not heard from you.  Do you check for emails regular or have you forgetten to do so? We are still inactivity for the supply of pencils from you and moreover, this is already the second week.

Cheers,

John

John will have to move for Mary to reply and there is no quarantee that he will get it.

To solve the problem, some email providers and wage what is called a “Messenger”. Both Hotmail and Yahoo provides Messengers for their users. With a Messenger, John and Mary can have a two-way communication with another.  For example,

John: Hi Mary, how r u?
Mary: I am good, John. How r u?

John: Did you get my email?
Mary: Yes, I did …

Even though this is superior than email but again Mary might select to ignore John.

If you plan to write a long email of more than 100 words. It’s superior to place your writing into a .txt file and attached it to your main email with a brief statement to inform your recipient of the attachment. Make sure the attachment is not too massive making it harder to be downloaded.

Instant Messaging

As mentioned earlier, an example of an instant messaging system is the “Messenger”. In addition to a two-way conversations with typed words, two or more people can also see one another via their personal screens while having a normal verbal conversation. With a webcam, people can see apiece other and have a verbal conversation with an instant messenger. Among the favourite instant messengers are Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Life Messenger, and Skype.

Mobile

The mobile is a very handy device because you can carry it along with you and use it to make calls whenever you need and want to do so. WIth a modern mobile, you can also send text messages known as SMS; watch and download videos; take pictures; play games; and do many other stuff. It is a very useful gadget you can use in the event of an emergency. With a mobile, you don’t have to go looking or asking for a telephone.

iPhone

The iPhone by Apple, Inc., the company that introduced the famous Apple I and II personal as well as the Mac, is a superior version of a mobile. It is favourite because it is easier to use than an ordinary mobile as it incorporates the touch-screen technology. Such technology grants you to activate a function by pressing an picture the represents it with your finger. This saves your time from having to scroll through a list of functions before reaching the one you want. Like a mobile, you can also use the iPhone to make calls and that explains the word phone in its name.

Future devices.

Although, there is already mobile devices that grant us to see apiece other while having a conversation, such technology is not common yet. However, I believe in the near future such technology will be something we take for allowed and it is very uncommon for a mortal who lives in advanced country not to possess it.

7 Technologies to Solve The Spectrum Crisis

Technology

The sky is falling in the mobile broadband world in part because demand appears to be outstripping the supply of spectrum acquirable to wage Facebook or streaming video on our phones and tablets. However, Chicken Littles are ignoring some very promising technological solutions that could help turn the spectrum crunch into a capital spending bonanza by telecommunications companies. Here are seven solutions that can make our airwaves go further. Carriers will still have to figure out how to keep their margins intact as the usages of their spectrum outstrips the current cost models around providing it.

ZTE’s Software Defined Radio: Wednesday the Chinese equipment vendor stated it was building a software defined radio, which means that the broadcasting can frequency hop using software since the broadcasting functions aren’t built in hardware. The SDR aspect makes a broadcasting more versatile, and ZTE in its declaration stated it will use anti-interference technologies to deliver twice the uplink capacity for future HSPA-plus networks, such as the type of network T-Mobile USA is deploying. Boosting capacity and doubling the amount of data that consumers can send over the same amount of spectrum helps operators deliver more bits over their existing airwaves. A definite win.

Rajant’s Mesh Networking: Rajant is a contractor that has built mesh networks for government customers and oil companies. Its software and gear can be programmed to take advantage of multiple acquirable networks such as Wi-Fi, government bands and cellular signals and it weaves all of that into one unified network offering that can handle rapidly changing conditions on the fly such as a network node failure. The company, which has been around since 2001, is only now trying to market its technology to mobile operators and telegram providers, but it does help use all of the acquirable spectrum more efficiently by hopping from a channel with interference to another one seamlessly and by making the network redundant. This day Rajant showed off a portable base station and mesh network designed to be deployed over water, a notoriously difficult spectrum environment.

Carrier Aggregation: Several equipment vendors have shared ways that they can bond a carrier’s disparate chunks of spectrum into a unified block. This renders existing spectrum holdings more productive and might make previously less desirable spectrum a bit better. Plus, adding another chunk of spectrum also adds more capacity to a network.

Wi-Fi: Operators are already using Wi-Fi offload to help shed traffic from their constrained cellular networks, but anything that can make the process seamless and more customer-friendly makes it more likely that consumers will use the less congested option. Forbes reported this wekend that an Israeli start WeFi is working with U.S. carriers to deliver automatic Wi-Fi offload when customer’s devices are in range.

White Spaces: The effort to promote the intent of White Spaces broadband or Super Wi-Fi has languished with the massive manufacturers that championed the effort staying oddly silent now that the FCC has approved it and set up some rules around it. However, having a chunk of unlicensed spectrum in the 700 MHz band is a wonderful opportunity for deploying long-range Wi-Fi style networks that could carry mobile data traffic. Perhaps carriers will operate these Super Wi-Fi hotspots as a means of providing even more offload but still garner a revenue stream, or perhaps municipalities or other organizations will step up.

Pico and Femtocells: Sure, we might have stated that femtocells are on a road to nowhere, and with the wrong business model that’s still the case. However, when it comes to reusing spectrum, femtocells and picocells are one of the ideal options for carriers to improve their actual cellular networks without offloading customers to cheaper Wi-Fi or unlicensed alternatives. One of the things holding deployment back is the business model, but another is how complex it becomes to manage a network after deploying hundreds or thousands of little base stations. The network structure itself must evolve, but vendors are already taking steps to ensure that evolution happens. Now carriers just have to purchase into it.

LTE Advanced: For a low-down on how the next iteration of the 4G wireless technology standard will help, check out my detailed post on LTE-Advanced, but the short version is this standard will help cram more bits into apiece megahertz of spectrum as well as help operators more effectively reuse their spectrum.

Sure, there are plenty of other methods that operators can use to make sure we’re optimizing rather than hoarding our mobile spectrum, but many of those require investment on behalf of the carriers. And with the threat of mobile data use rising while overall average revenue per users drops, carriers might be happier to find faster access to spectrum than to more efficiently use the airwaves they have.

Get Yourself Updated About 3G Technology.

Technology

The first generation (1G) began in the primeval 80’s with commercial deployment of Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) cellular networks. Early AMPS networks used Frequency Division Multiplexing Access (FDMA) to carry analog voice over channels in the 800 MHz frequency band. The second generation (2G) emerged in the 90’s when mobile operators deployed two competing digital voice standards. Across the world, many operators adopted the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) standard, which used Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) to multiplex up to 8 calls per channel in the 900 and 1800 MHz bands.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) defined the third generation (3G) of mobile telephony standards IMT-2000 to assist growth, increase bandwidth, and support more diverse applications. For example, GSM could deliver not only voice, but also circuit-switched data at speeds up to 14.4 Kbps. But to support mobile multimedia applications, 3G had to deliver packet-switched data with superior spectral efficiency, at far greater speeds.

However, to get from 2G to 3G, mobile operators had make “evolutionary” upgrades to existing networks while simultaneously planning their “revolutionary” new mobile broadband networks. This lead to the establishment of two distinct 3G families: 3GPP and 3GPP2.

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) was formed in 1998 to foster deployment of 3G networks that descended from GSM. 3GPP technologies evolved as follows.

• General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) offered speeds up to 114 Kbps.
• Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) reached up to 384 Kbps.
• UMTS Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) offered downlink speeds up to 1.92 Mbps.
• High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) boosted the downlink to 14Mbps.
• LTE Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) is aiming for 100 Mbps.

GPRS deployments began in 2000, followed by EDGE in 2003. While these technologies are defined by IMT-2000, they are sometimes called “2.5G” because they did not offer multi-megabit data rates. EDGE has now been superceded by HSDPA (and its uplink partner HSUPA).
3G networks offer greater security than their 2G predecessors. By allowing the UE (User Equipment) to authenticate the network it is attaching to, the individual can be sure the network is the intended one and not an impersonator. 3G networks use the KASUMI block crypto instead of the older A5/1 stream cipher.
However, a number of serious weaknesses in the KASUMI cipher have been identified. In addition to the 3G network infrastructure security, end-to-end security is offered when application frameworks such as IMS are accessed, even though this is not strictly a 3G property.

Simply 3G cellular technology is can be defined as the supplying of wireless broadband data and information services right to a person’s mobile unit. Compared to the previous technologies, 3G promises speeds ranging from 144 Kbps, which is 3 times faster compared to the traditional 56K dial-up modem connection up to 2.4 Mbps, which is very near cable-modem speed. The networks of 3G grants you to browse swiftly through web pages, watch on-demand video programs, download and play music, videos and 3D games, watch streaming videos and music videos and have a video conference with others located on the other side of the plant.

With the new way of doing telecommunication, many mobile phone manufacturing companies tried to make some profit from it and launched 3G enabled phones but till now no one is as successful as Apple iphone 3G .

Business Phones Keep Up With Changes In Technology

Technology

The basic premise that defines a business phone has been easy and well said for many years. Business phones, unlike home telephones, need to be healthy to handle a massive call volume and wage functionality that is useful to the end user. This usually includes the capability to field several calls at the same time, place people on hold when necessary, and direct phone traffic to wherever it needs to go. Business phones have accomplished these tasks with flying colors going all the way back the early models. Even more impressive, however, is the capability business phone manufacturers have shown to incorporate new and expanding technologies into their products.

Technology has grown by leaps and bounds, especially in the last two decades. From faxes to cellular phones and the dawning of the personal age, changes that have affected phones in general, but particularly business phones, have been varying and abundant. Looking at other industries where technology has influenced design and protocols, one can easily see that not all manufacturers share the same competitiveness that business phone manufacturers share in relation to keeping their products as current as possible. Digital telephones were acquirable before the digital alarm clock, digitalwrist watchor the digitalthermostat.

While it could be argued for the digital alarm clock or the digitalwrist watchthat this is simply a matter of function not really benefitting form, I doubt that anyone would dispute the exclusion of thethermostatin that description. Like the digitalization of the telephone, digitalizedthermostatsoffer options that were not doable prior to the conversion. From the capability to adjust temperature settings based on time to the increased level of accuracy, digitalization has offered great benefits to this particular product. Why then, were products such as these so much slower than the business telephone to adopt digitalization?

It is more a testament to the dedication of telephoneequipment manufacturersthan it is a knock on other product manufacturers. The telephone business is highly competitive, and the eventual beneficiary of this competitiveness is the consumer. Whatever changes lie ahead for technology, you can be certain that business phone manufacturers will incorporate those changes into their products.
