Amadeus Consulting Discusses: Finding the Right Technology Partner: 7 Tips

One of the most interesting aspects of nature is the broad range of diversity and uncommon interactions that we find. One of these is the boxer crab, a small crab which earns its study from the fact that it forms a partnership with sea anemones (in biology, the relationship is called mutualism), which grow on the crab’s claws and act as a defense mechanism. Also known as the “pom-pom crab,” this relationship between the anemone and the crab help both to survive and thrive in an ever-challenging environment.

In nature, it takes a lot to find the right relationship that benefits both celebrations equally. In business, finding that kind of partnership can be equally challenging, but also equally rewarding.

Finding the Right Technology Partner:

In business, finding the right technology partner can be somewhat challenging, but very rewarding. We’ve assembled some tips and characteristics that can help you evaluate potential partners as you start your search.

Reputation

What have other companies and individuals stated about the company? Can they give you references and show clear examples of projects that they have finished that are similar to what you need? If you search for this company online, what do you find? Also, has this company won any awards or received any recognition for its work?

Experience

Along with their reputation as a company, does this company have experience in the specific areas and with the specific technologies that you need? Can they establish this experience through past projects, certifications, or anything else?

Communication

Make sure that you can swiftly and easily communicate with the company. During any project, there will be some amount of collaboration so it is important that you feel healthy to talk to them. Also, make sure that the company is healthy to communicate complex technology terms in ways that relate to you.

Mutual Benefit

There is more to a business partnership than “you pay money, so you get our services.” The right technology partner will be invested in helping your company succeed with your project.

In other words, the right partner will seek to comprehend how you intend to benefit as a business from the technology, and work to make sure the technology solution helps accomplish that goal, rather than just checking off a list of requirements. The company should comprehend that in order to “win” you both need to benefit.

Long Term vs. Short Term

Technology partnerships can be short term, such as a single project, or long term over the course of multiple projects.

Ideally, you want to find someone that you can use as a long term technology partner, even if you don’t anticipate to ever need technology services in the foreseeable future. Why? Because you will nearly inevitably need a technology partner again in the future. This can also benefit you on future projects as the company will already comprehend your business and be healthy to superior meet your needs, and it can be helpful to have someone that you can go to for swift technology advice or assistance.

Services and Resources

Does the company have a depth of internal and external resources, and are they healthy to offer an extended range of technologies or solutions? The capability to wage a broad range of services often means that they can help you find the ideal solution using the ideal technologies, rather than being stuck trying to use one technology to solve all challenges.

Also, look at companies that have depth. These resources indicate their capability to recruit talented individuals in many fields as well as the capability to work with other companies in their sector to achieve the ideal results.

Support

Does the company wage full service and/or extended support for the products it creates? Also, does it assist with the implementation and installation of the solution, and are its developers healthy to help train your staff to use the new technology?

Support, Warranty, and other service guarantees are vital to understanding the level of commitment the company has towards your project. While extended support services are usually an optional addition to your, general warranties and implementation support should be included as a part of the basic project package, whenever applicable.

The Final Word

Ultimately the ideal choice might be one that leaves you with few (or zero) doubts and concerns about their capability to work with you and accomplish your project.

The New Ford Technology

Ford Motors is not only creating the most modern hybrid cars but they are also working on the ideal in country features for those vehicles. There is a new array of “active” crash-avoidance technologies that will be introduced into this year by driving prototypes into large, car-shaped balloons to help customers refrain real accidents. Engineers at the Dearborn Development Center use these balloons to test the company’s new adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support technology. The consumer is demanding that some technology be created that can help refrain sudden unexpected hazards due to cruise control unfortunate or brake support failures. This is just a couple of the many new country features that are being checked and corrected for the consumers.

Ford Motors plans on introducing the system on the 2010 Ford Taurus, acquirable in the start 2009, while Lincoln is announcing the new system will be offered on the 2010 MKS, adding to the Lincoln flagship sedan’s long list of acquirable technology. One of the many newer technologies is the parallel parking active park assist that makes it easier for the consumer to park without touching the steering wheel. Along with the adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support to warn drivers of doable hazards in front of them and assist them in reacting early Ford Motors believes this will improve income for the newer vehicles. Ford Motors is using radiolocation in order to monitor the area in front of the automobile which should help to drastically reduce major accidents by the careful driver.

The newer country features developed by the Ford Motors Technology division are things that other automakers will want to take a good look at and perhaps they too will install similar technologies in their vehicles. The intent is to save the consumer not only on gas mileage but to implement a automobile that is not too costly to repair. The high cost of repair bills is driving the profitability down for insurance companies but it is also putting a strong dent in the pocket of the consumer. No one wants high repair bills on a automobile because it is poorly constructed and by implementing country technology this will make the consumer much friendlier when it comes to buying the newer hybrids. The government takes a look at what “The Huge Three” automakers are doing with the funds that they will be getting.

As the world grows, auto makers are going to become more advanced over it’s lifetime. From country features to make it safer for you to newer features in the automobile that make it more convenient for you and your family. It’s astonishing to look back on everything in the past and see how far automobile companies have come today. Just think of what’s out there right now and think 10 or even 20 years down the road from now. No matter what kind of automobile you step into, you’re going to find that you’re going to be driving in a wonderful piece of technology.

How to Incorporate Technology Into your Business

Honestly I can state I am a geek when it comes to technology. I love the latest inventions of anything that is electronic. Whether it is the iPhone, Blackberry or some new laptop that innovates the industry, I love to try it out.

However as a business owner it is more than just having the latest tech items. You must be healthy to use those items so that the return on your investment for that item is warranted. In other words, you wouldn`t spend five thousand dollars on a personal if it did not in some way make your business run smoother, faster and/or more efficient. That would make it a waste of money.

In this article, with the help of the Counselors to America`s small businesses, or superior known as S. C. O. R. E, I want to give you 5 helpful tips for when you implement technology into your business.

Plan, plan, plan. This is true in area of life, and especially true when you are integrating technology into a business. You must have a plan. Just like you would have a business plan or marketing plan, you should also have a technology plan. This plan should outline what kind of technology you are going to implement, its purpose, cost, a strategy as to when you will upgrade it, who will maintain it and so on. Your technology plan, like all other plans, should fully detail the who, what, when, where, and why questions.

Design your goals. In the design of your plan make sure you outline the goals you want this new technology to achieve. For our business we implemented the latest version of the MySQL database. Our goal was to use the new version for faster response time and a more efficient means of the database design. Your design of your plan must end up with you reaching the goal for its intended purpose.

Investment. As SCORE puts it, you want to think of technology as investment into your business. The technology you implement should help your business run more efficient, faster, more cost affective and so on. A friend of mine runs a home repair business. Recently he bought a customer tracking and invoicing piece of software. His plan was to make sure he could track all of his customers, their needs, and subsequent invoices for jobs with a few mouse clicks or tiny typing. That piece of software helped speed up the tedious task of office work which was dragging him down. Therefore his investment into that software was worth it.

Solve those problems. You can begin by defining what problems your company or business faces. Then define how technology will help solve those problems. In our example above, the problem was the amount of time wasted by organizing paperwork, doing invoices by hand and so on. The new software implemented, solved that problem.

Seek the experts. Last but certainly not least, however last for a reason, seek the advice of technology experts. Even though you might love the new tech gadgets, software and devices, you might not have all the answers to your needs. If you know what your problems are, but aren`t sure how to solve them with technology, speak to someone in the technology field who is an expert. You can always look in the yellow pages for personal and software professionals. You might not know that a piece of software exists for what you need, but they sure do. Just keep in mind, as with all partnering, and that is basically what you are doing here, good partners will accelerate success, while bad ones will accelerate failure. Do your homework on the expert. Make sure they do have the experience of what they are speaking about and have your ideal interest at heart and not their own.

Technology is a beautiful thing. When implemented properly it will help your business tremendously.

5 New Communication Technologies To Supplement Email

Every business relies on effective communication with its customers. Communication doesn’t just convey information, it inspires trust, builds credibility, stimulates involvement and generates loyalty. But in today’s global, hi-tech, rapidly changing business environment, how do you ensure you’re communicating effectively?

The Benchmark- Face to Face

There’s no doubt that face-to-face communication is the most effective method for most people. Why? Because of its two-way nature. It’s about dialogue. Listeners are not passive participants. When someone speaks to us, we send a continuous stream of responses back to them. Some are verbal, but many/most are not. These responses have the power to actually change the message being disseminated by the talker. What’s more, they have the power to change how other listeners’ interpret that message. (Similarly, other listeners have the power to change your interpretation. )

Unfortunately, however, the global nature of business makes it impossible to conduct face-to-face meetings for each communication. So what are the alternatives? Specifically, what are the alternatives offered by technology?

Email – The Starting Point

The benefits of email are numerous and well known, and include (but are not limited to):

•Email is an excellent mechanism for distributing information to people. It is fast and cost effective.

•It is incredibly convenient – you can readily communicate crossways time zones.

•It provides a useful electronic paper trail.

•It can save a great deal of time because most of the fluff surrounding a phone call (the social niceties) are seen as unnecessary in email.

•It grants recipients to read and respond to messages in their own time.

•The wording, grammar and punctuation in an email can be considered and edited before finally sending.

But email does have its limitations:

•Its demand of social niceties is a double-edged sword. Without the benefit of other communication cues, it’s sometimes hard to interpret the tone of an email, and this can make some messages ambiguous.

•It isn’t saint for critical communication. For many people, emails are not ‘real-time’ communication. We all have that unaddressed email sitting at the bottom of the list. Because emails are so simple to ignore, they’re also simple to forget.

•Ironically, email’s dissemination effectiveness has been one of the major impediments to its communication effectiveness. It’s so simple to send emails – and they’re so anonymous – that our inboxes are now flooded with SPAM. Consequently, emails are viewed with some suspicion. It’s sometimes hard to refer legitimate emails, but it’s very simple to just hit Delete.

•Because email senders are typically geographically (and often culturally) distant from their recipients, they have no immediate visual and aural cues to help them accommodate the message as they type.

But there’s no need to ‘throw out the baby with the bathwater’. Email is an excellent solution to many communication needs. And for those it is ill-equipped to handle, there are newer, more appropriate technologies that are built for the job. . .

Web 2. 0 Technologies – The Perfect Supplement

Web 2. 0, a term coined by O’Reilly Media (an American media company) in 2004 refers, to a second-generation of internet-based services that let people collaborate and share information online in new ways.

Web 2. 0 technologies are well defined in www. wikipaedia. org, which recommends that these sites grant the users of the sites (members) to create and share content, including exploring and discussing ideas, opinions, initiatives and issues. Web 2. 0 is all about communication. It is the evolution of the world wide web from an endless library of static pages to an endless world of conversations. These pages can be restricted to particular individuals (eg the executive), or open to all members. The only difference is that the interaction takes place in cyberspace, and those taking part can be sitting behind a keyboard just about anywhere on the planet.

Importantly, a reader’s understanding of the message in a Web 2. 0 communication is determined, not just by the publisher, but also by the responses (e. g. comments) of the audience. What’s more, the publisher’s actual message tends to be far more fluid as it, too, is informed by the responses of the audience. In other words, Web 2. 0 services are far more like face-to-face conversations than any communication technology before them.

So what are these emerging technologies that we should be keeping an eye on? The two most notable are ‘Wikis’ and ‘Blogs’. The following definitions are from http://www. wikipedia. org, an online encyclopaedia developed as a wiki.

•Wikis – A wiki is a type of website that grants users to easily add, remove or otherwise edit and change content. This assist of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative authoring. Examples include Wikipedia (wikipedia. com) and wikiwikiweb (http://www. wikiwikiweb. com).

•Blogs – A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of online diary or journal which grants one to voice their view on something. Blogs often wage commentary or news and information on a particular subject. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media. Blogs are usually text based, but they can include photographs, videos or audio (podcasting). Blogs can be presented in a way that creates a conversation between users. As an example, see the Sydney Morning Herald travel blog (http://blogs. smh. com. au/lostintransit/).

The Uses Of Web 2. 0

As with face-to-face social gatherings and forums, online get togethers attract a broad spectrum of participants hot to engage, entertain, befriend, advise and lecture.

It was reported in The Australian (Tuesday 8 August 2006) that the social computing element of Web 2. 0 has recently been embraced by the US Government. The US Say Department has started including blogs and other Web 2. 0 concepts to deliver public information to citizens. It is also using wiki style services to improve information by permitting small expert communities to improve advisory services.

The same article advised that Australia’s leading information advisory body, the Australian Government Information Management Office, had begun experimenting with the use of blogs, wikis and other Web 2. 0 technologies.

As new online social networks mushroom, they are becoming increasingly focused on niches, ideally suited to membership based organizations and the NFP sector. Examples of general public social networks include My Space (http://www. myspace. com), Classmates (http://www. classmates. com) and Bikely (bikely. com).

Other Useful Technologies

•SMS – Short Message Service (SMS) is a service acquirable on most digital mobile phones (and other mobile devices, e. g. a Pocket PC, or occasionally even desktop computers) that permits the sending of short messages between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline telephones.

•Podcast – Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio or video programs, over the world wide web using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and individualized computers.

•Webinars – Web conferencing is used to hold group meetings or live presentations over the internet. In the primeval years of the internet, the terms “web conferencing” and “computer conferencing” were often used to refer to group discussions conducted within a message board (via posted text messages), but the term has evolved to refer specifically to “live” or “synchronous” meetings, while the posted message variety of discussion is called a “forum”, “message board”, or “bulletin board”.

A webinar is a seminar which is conducted over the World Wide Web. It is a type of web conferencing. In contrast to a Webcast, which is transmission of information in one direction only, a webinar is designed to be interactive between the presenter and audience. A webinar is ‘live’ in the sense that information is conveyed according to an agenda, with a starting and ending time.

In most cases, the presenter might talk over a standard telephone line, pointing out information being presented on screen, and the audience can respond over their own telephones, preferably a speakerphone. Whilst not necessarily considered Web 2. 0, Webinars can also be a useful mechanism for information distribution and discussion amongst membership based organizations and SMS can wage important or important confirmations.

Conclusion

Email is – and will continue to be – an incredibly useful and convenient communication tool. In fact, with the emergence of new technologies that are either more direct, more immediate, or more like face-to-face communication, email is improved. As businesses supplement their email usage with other communication technologies, email will be increasingly reserved for those communications to which it is ideally suited.

Level Up Health Care with Network Technology

One of President Obama’s major initiatives will be to bring the US health care system into the 21st century.     Our lagging health care infrastructure has lead to big medical inefficiency, high premiums to the average citizen and an overall ‘leaky faucet’ effect that is contributing to the pool of problems our economy faces.   The Obama administration has proposed a five year, near $100 billion dollar, initiative to fix our health care system through innovative new technology that includes creating electronic versions of all health records.

Although creating electronic health records is a large step in ‘leveling up’ our health care system to meet modern day information technology standards, there is also the less celebrity concept of implementing high-tech network technology towards health care.     It will be one thing for physicians and patients to have access to medical data, and another for them to communicate that data.

From the Cisco System’s blog:

“Web 2. 0 technologies are beginning to change the practice of medicine,” states Lynne A. Dunbrack, program director for Health Industry Insights a market research and advisory firm in Framingham, MA. “We now have a significant number of physicians who grew up with the Internet, and they want to use online collaboration technology to keep up with the relentless demands for ever-greater speed and efficiency. “

Medical communication technology still needs to catch up to the rest of the Web 2. 0 technology , whether it be the capability for patients to easily browse a number of potential physicians or primary care facilities, or the functionality to grant a physician to instantly access and update a patient’s records via their iphone.   Even though medical technology has advanced in leaps and bounds as far as its primary purpose- diagnosing and repairing patients, it still needs to embrace a new wave of communication and network technology.

This might be a difficult task.   One barrier to the health care stimulus’ task of digitzing records is simply physicians and medical specialists are used to the old way of doing things.   It can be extremely difficult to fully transition from the paper to digital world because it is a 180 degree change in the every-day routine and process of the work.   The same goes for embracing new health care networking and communication technologies.

However, the advantages to utilizing these new technologies will far outweigh the hurdles of changing old ways.   Cutting-edge video conferencing can grant multiple specialists to collaborate and diagnose on a level never before possible.      ‘Medical-networking’ platforms can grant for patients to easily communicate with their doctor’s and nurses on a individualized level, but prevent over-inundation of the acquirable medical resources.

The first step to leveling up our health care system is for the medical community to change their mindset, and realize that any significant change for the good requires crossing a number of hurdles.   The second step is rewiring and revamping the hardware and network infrastructure of medical facilities crossways the country.   The barrier to entry here is the enormous cost and risk for both public institutions and private practices to make the digital leap of faith.   There are ways to soften this blow as well.

Large network providers, like Cisco Systems and Juniper networks, can aid public medical institutions by providing the necessary network hardware infrastructure in bulk.    Private practices are scared of technological change because it seems like a risk (and investment) that could set them back some years, or worse, sink their business.    However, some of the costs that private medical institutions and practices will incur can be lowered by purchasing used network hardware and personal equipment, such as a used router or refurbished server.

Although costly, if US medical institutions change their mindset and network infrastructure, it will place us well on our way to 21st century health care.

The Importance of Technology In Business

A June 23, 2005 news release from the Office of Advocacy, U. S. Small Business Administration, says that home personal owners are slightly more likely to be business owners than non-computer owners. This report reveals that technology and computing has become an inseparable ingredient in the business world today.

The Personal Trend – A Brief History

The last two decades have marked an enormous increase in the number of home computers. With it, personal owners have invariably taken to entrepreneurship in many varied fields. Thanks to the growth of technology, personal and the Internet, new methods have been developed for processing each day business activities easily. Without the advent of technology, routine tasks would otherwise have taken and enormous amount of time and specialization. Undoubtedly, the personal represents the top technology development in the last century as it relates to businesses today, both massive and small. Advances in the field of technology have created a vast number of business opportunities.

Some Statistics

In 2003, the U. S. Small Business Administration produced a report/survey that established conclusively that more than 75% of small businesses owned personal and had heavily invested in new technology. Let us try to comprehend what the personal mean to businesses and how they contribute to increase their productivity.

USE OF COMPUTERS IN BUSINESSES

The fundamental reasons for the popularity of personal with small businesses are their efficiency, speed, low procurement cost and more than anything else, ability to handle multiple tasks with tiny chance for error.

Office Routines: Nearly invariably, businesses loaded with the burden of increasing workloads and the pressures of being lean and mean, start back upon technology for most of their administrative tasks. This work includes, among others, bookkeeping, inventory managing and email. The advent of the World wide web has also substantially contributed in bringing down the costs of communication and marketing. In a nutshell, technology has reduced the overall cost of business operations.

New Business Opportunities: The explosion of World wide web and e-commerce has opened up a plethora of opportunities for all types of businesses. New management methodologies, such as Six Sigma are easier to implement due to statistical software. Also, companies are healthy to train their own employees using in-house Six Sigma software programs, and as a result, save money on fag costs.

It is now doable to have many business functions operate on autopilot. This has opened up new opportunities for software development companies and business consultants. Another business trend that has opened up as a result of advancing technology is outsourcing. It is now doable for a company in USA to have its data entry and customer service centers in overseas countries such as the UK. In this way, companies can service their customers 24/7.

Indispensable Components of Small Businesses

It is difficult to think of a situation where businesses can do without technology and personal today. It is extremely difficult to state whether businesses depend on personal or personal created business opportunities.

Software Specific To Small Businesses

Certain powerful, yet easy software has come to the rescue of small businesses in reducing their tasks and opening up new channels. Easy applications like spreadsheets and word processing helps them maintain accounts, finances and keep track of correspondence. These applications grant the users to customize reports and other functions to suit their particular business.

Drawbacks

Both men and women in business have adapted successfully to new technology. But the SBA report cites the general decline in skill levels of people, which might eventually result in an overall reduction of income levels. It seems that people get used to technology doing all the work and tend to neglect their skill development. It is up to individual companies to make sure that their employees are still healthy to do crucial tasks without the assistance of computers, if necessary.

Are You Accidentally Managing Your Nonprofits Technology Needs?

Supporting a Nonprofits technology is extremely important to an organizations success and survival. However if you are like most small nonprofits, technology support is a secondary activity until something breaks then everybody wants full time solutions.

If that gives you stage fright, now imaging you are hired as the office assistant or the Executive Director of your Nonprofit organization. You still have the same issues working with your office equipment but I bet you are thinking that somehow, all of your organizations technology resources have become your responsibility! When the resources of a nonprofit organization are scarce and money and true funding do not really exist, an accidental techie situation is a reality. The accidental techie comes about because planning to handle technology was the last thing thought about when you or the organization started. when you and the organization have the same study and the same business function, then that probably means the organization is you. When this occurs to you, you need to step back and get an intent of what you need to do in order to survive. Do not try and solve all your lingering internet, office, voice and CRM technology needs all at the same time. Dive in where it makes sense for you. In other cases you need to get someone to help you. As a business system analyst from the corporate world, I advocate that you get out of this no win situation by following this step-by-step outline to creating an effective system.

You first need to get a comprehensive review of your operating environment. Your opening move is to develop a picture of your current business operation. This includes your entire internet, out of office and in office technology needs. Second, look around and review your support staff, if you have a staff that is. Next establish how you presently make use of and buy your technology and related personal equipment. Then begin thinking about how your organization is protecting itself from disasters and data loss. Finally do some reflection and define how are you managing your technology support role? Have you decide if what you do is effective or is it beyond providing real help anymore.

Next we move on to another piece of building yourself, a get out of technology slammer card. You are then required to place together executive board support for your technology initiative. This happens because when you started, the group probably had one computer and dialup. Then as the organization mission became clearer and more defined, technology needs grow by osmosis. They just multiply all by them selves. It is like an organic growth process. One day you go to work and there are needs for 10 people not one person. When the organization you work for equates to a one for one situation, then you should evaluate what your time is worth. When you do this, you have a basis for making sound decisions. Are you spending time doing things that hamper your true mission? If you have a nonprofit board then as the default techie who is really the accidental techie, you have to confront the problem of educating and influencing your organizational policies and measures. You are doing this because you are absent the foresight or real dominance to do so but you have a powerful mission and you can show the value. Your board probably does not comprehend the need for technology support or the board believes you can do it just like the last mortal in your role. You need to find a way to make them comprehend what is at risk if you stay in the role.

Once you complete this process you will know your overall needs. At this point you will have progressed to where you will need funding and it could be a small request to fix an immediate problem. If your nonprofit is growing or your group is a larger organization then you might need to develop a formal request to your non profit board.

Technology Skill for Traditional Auditors

The growing awareness of the need to use personal in domestic, commerce and industries has brought about a new turn in the way audit is conducted. Computerization or Information Technology has taken over most of the business activities and has spread over and beyond unimaginable tendencies.

Technology has brought about serious changes that might warrant traditional Auditors (i. e. Auditors who do not possess enough IT skill to perform audit tasks) asking themselves whether their role in today’s world of computer-run organizations can be guaranteed. And if so, what must they do to remain relevant, maintain and expand the scope and calibre of their services, and contribute to the new form of wealth in the contemporary knowledge economy.

We now live in a society where change is imperative. Even when we do not wish to change, it is forced on us. To be competitive in this dynamic environment, today’s Auditors are expected to keep pace with the technological issues and opportunities surrounding the development.

Technology has affected the ways and methods Auditors carry out their jobs. Knowing what areas have been affected and which particular technologies have affected the areas is very important so that Auditors can continue to plan their carrier development.

Computerization of Bookkeeping Jobs, Electronic Commerce, Electronic Data Interchange, World wide web and On-line Services, to mention a few, have serious implications for traditional Auditors and their works because they have affected how and when information is created, processed, stored, communicated, acquired, refined and interpreted.

To add positively to the value chain creation in our modern organizations and societies, Auditors need to reorganise themselves to keep up with the rapidly advancing technologies and the resulting changes in the needs of their clients and employers. As a critical success factor, technology is changing the organization chart and value change relationships. Nevertheless, no matter how much automation takes place in commerce and industry, a lot of human intervention will continue to be involved in solving information problems at the level of information reengineering.

This is where Auditors have a great opportunity, as information architects and systems integrators, to expand their services. This means that the role of technology will change the nature, timing and location of Auditors roles in the value creation process. For instance, Auditors will now do less of manual vouching of bookkeeping documents (which personal will now take over) and become information systems consultants, analyzers and interpreters of data.

They have to become information architects and information professionals to be healthy to assist their clients and employers into the mainstream of the information age, in which efficient information system, enabled by appropriate technologies are waved into the overall corporate strategy.

A major concern among view leaders in audit profession this day is that the staggeringly fast changing information technologies might overwhelm the control abilities of Auditors, unless they constantly upskill themselves at a speed consistent with the changes taking place.

To be effective, Auditors need to comprehend the security sensitivity of Computer-based Environment and be healthy to combat personal – related fraud. Acquiring information technology skills requires the discipline of learning. They must engage in the learning process necessary to revamp their skills.

They need to become information engineers and architects, using their better knowledge of the business process to help management make efficient and effective Information Technology (IT) decisions. Offering sound counseling to management is an area that Auditors have a role to play.

As we realize the value of information as asset, they need to help management appreciate the need to protect both information and the technologies that are used to manage and move information. Having talked about this, it is now obvious that a major challenge in a knowledge society is making information productive. Information that is not secured can't be productive for the owner.

Those who are responsible to ensuring integrity, confidentiality and availability of information can't afford to be noncurrent in the technology that is either used to process the data or convey the information. It is therefore clear that Auditors who do not possess the right skill to work in a computerized environment can not claim to have an answer to information security stipulation of such establishment. Auditors in general must continue to enroll in IT Security Schools and Associations to leverage the gap being created by emerging technologies.

This is very important because they must fulfill the expectations of their employers and clients, who count on the truth and impartiality of financial statements that they audit. They must also ensure that modern techniques and tools appropriate to the new environment in which they work are learned and used in verifying the validity of the financial information on which they express opinion.
